UNODC Supports Peace Support Operations Training Center in Bosnia and Herzegovina with Course on Integrity
01 - 05 July, Butmir/Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina: UNODC has recently joined forces with the Peace Support Operations Training Center (PSOTC) to support integrity training for military personnel.
As a NATO accredited education facility, which also provides UN certified training to military personnel, police officers and civilians, PSOTC offered a week-long ‘Building Integrity in Peace Support Operations Course’ (BIPSO) for 28 participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina and 12 other countries.
The primary objective of the BIPSO Course was to raise awareness and share best practices, tools and techniques that empower participants to recognize, understand and counter various forms of corruption that undermine organizational credibility and success of peace support operations.
Participants engaged in a series of discussions and exercises designed to equip them with the skills and knowledge necessary to enhance integrity and transparency in their respective organizations and in future operations. Topics covered include corruption risk assessments in missions and peacetime, ethical leadership and others.
UNODC contributed to the course with a lecture on the UN Convention against Corruption and its implementation review mechanism as well as with a discourse on cross-cutting themes to building integrity.
With the topic of ethics and integrity high on the agenda of civil-military cooperation, building capacity of defense and security actors in this area is an integral part of broader efforts to ensure human security. Given that anti-corruption is a key focus of the UNODC Regional Programme for South-Eastern Europe, UNODC will continue supporting such efforts based on close cooperation with key regional training institutions, such as PSOTC.
