Paris Pact Policy Consultative Group meets to review progress and endorse priority recommendations

5-6 December 2022, Vienna, Austria: The 16th Policy Consultative Group Meeting (PCGM) of the Paris Pact Initiative was convened in a hybrid format in Vienna with the participation of 135 delegates, representing 37 countries and 13 international and regional organizations, including from South-Eastern Europe.

The delegates were provided with updates on patterns and trends, recent operational developments, and emerging new threats along the opiate trafficking routes originating in Afghanistan. In line with its implementation review and decision-making function for the Paris Pact partnership, the Policy Consultative Group received an update on the progress made by the Paris Pact programme, and endorsed the operational priority recommendations stemming from the Paris Pact Expert Working Group meetings held in 2022 in relation to the four pillars of the Vienna Declaration.

The Paris Pact Initiative is a broad international coalition of 58 partner countries and 23 organizations, for combatting the illicit traffic in opiates originating in Afghanistan.

This activity contributes to SDG 16, and particularly its Target 16.4, which is focused on significantly reducing the illicit financial and arms flows, strengthening the recovery and returning of stolen assets, and combatting all forms of organized crime.
