Air Cargo Control Unit in Skopje International Airport supported by UNODC
28 November-2 December 2022, Skopje, North Macedonia: UNODC experts conducted a mentoring visit to the Border Interagency Unit (BIU) composed of customs and police officers at the Skopje International Airport in North Macedonia, and supported by the UNODC-WCO Container Control Programme (CCP) and the UNODC-WCO-INTERPOL Airport Communication Project (AIRCOP) in cooperation with the UNODC Regional Programme for South-Eastern Europe.
Mentoring visits are an important tool for supporting units and continuing to improve the professional skills of law enforcement officers. During the mentoring visit to Skopje International Airport, CCP trainers provided feedback on regular activities conducted by the BIU. Furthermore, the trainers shared advice and insight to strengthen institutional capacities with the aim of minimizing the risks of illicit activities attempted through Skopje airport operations.
The activity was held within the framework of the joint EU-UNODC action on promoting the rule of law and good governance through targeted border control measures at ports and airports. The action is funded by the EU and implemented by AIRCOP and CCP in cooperation with the Regional Programme for South Eastern Europe.
