UNODC Pakistan Empowers Bomb Disposal Unit and Civil Defense of Sindh and Balochistan with Advanced Training of Trainers Course

28 June 2024, Islamabad - The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Pakistan conducted series of two comprehensive four-day "Mentoring/Training of Trainers" (ToT) session for officials from the Bomb Disposal Unit and Civil Defense of Sindh and Balochistan. This initiative marks a significant step in enhancing the skills and capabilities of these critical units, building upon the foundation of approximately 12 specialized training courses previously conducted to counter Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

From these extensive training sessions, 20 officials were selected based on rigorous assessments to become master trainers for their respective departments. This strategic selection ensures the sustainability and effectiveness of the intervention at all levels, allowing these master trainers to disseminate their knowledge and expertise across their organizations.

The ToT program was designed to equip these officials with essential skills in adult learning, training evaluation mechanisms, and advanced delivery methods. The comprehensive curriculum covered all phases of training, including initiation, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and closing of the training sessions.

A significant component of the training was the introduction of the Kirkpatrick Model of training evaluations. This model empowers trainers to assess both the short-term and long-term impacts of their sessions, thereby enhancing the overall quality and efficacy of the training delivered. The Kirkpatrick Model's systematic approach ensures that the training sessions are not only effective immediately but also have a lasting impact on the capabilities of the personnel.

By transforming these selected officials into master trainers, UNODC aims to foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the Bomb Disposal Unit and Civil Defense of Sindh and Balochistan. This strategic approach ensures that the knowledge and skills imparted during the training sessions are prolonged and adapted to evolving challenges, thereby reinforcing the capacity and preparedness of these critical units.

UNODC’s commitment to enhancing the capabilities of the Bomb Disposal Unit and Civil Defense of Sindh and Balochistan through such innovative training programs is a testament to their dedication to safety and security. This initiative not only strengthens the immediate response capabilities of these units but also ensures long-term sustainability and effectiveness in combating the threats posed by IEDs.
