Modernizing service delivery at the Smart Police Stations in Balochistan

3 June 2024, Islamabad - The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) recently concluded a training program for police staff  deployed at the Smart Police Stations in Balochistan. Funded by the European Union (EU) under its ‘Deliver Justice Project’, the training was conducted in two spells of two days each from 28-31 May, 2024. This training focused on equipping officers with the expertise to operate a suite of specialized software designed to revolutionize police operations in Balochistan. The training represents a tangible commitment by both the EU and UNODC to support the Balochistan government's vision of modernizing Balochistan's police force and enhancing its ability to serve the community effectively.

The training will streamline various police processes, including station record management, human resource management, complaint registration, criminal record keeping, and more. The Police Station Record Management System (PSRMS) provides a digital platform for managing station records, eliminating the need for paper-based documentation, improving data accessibility and record-keeping efficiency. The Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS) streamlines human resource management tasks and functions like personnel records management, payroll processing, and leave tracking. The Complaint Management System (CMS) establishes a user-friendly platform for registering and tracking citizen complaints. This system allows for efficient case allocation, investigation tracking, and improved communication with complainants.

The Criminal Record Management System (CRMS) provides a centralized database for storing and managing criminal records. This system allows for efficient information retrieval and facilitates faster criminal investigations, playing a crucial role in crime prevention efforts. The Hotel Eye modules streamline processes related to citizen registration data management and driving license processing. This not only improves efficiency but also contributes to enhanced security measures, creating a more accessible, accountable, and responsive police force.

The adoption of specialized software and advanced information systems marks a turning point towards digital policing in the province. Enhancing efficiency will allow police officers to dedicate more time to investigations.

The collaborative effort between UNODC, the EU, and the Government of Balochistan demonstrates their continued commitment to creating a safer and more secure environment for the citizens of Balochistan, enhancing transparency and accountability, and encouraging public trust in the police and its services.
