Treatment and Care of Drug Use Disorders
UNODC also implements and scales up drug dependence treatment programmes. These support the full spectrum of treatment; from outreach to recovery services that support the individual, family and community. We focus on collecting data related to drug treatment as well as on building the capacity to meet drug treatment standards. UNODC strives to build the knowledge base of policy makers and develop professional standards for drug treatment programmes.
We also provide sustained advocacy and technical support to member states. We support their efforts to ensure the availability of internationally controlled narcotics for medical and scientific purposes. This promotes a greater understanding of the importance of significantly reducing barriers and increasing access accordingly.
In regard to alternatives to imprisonment, UNODC supports a comprehensive approach. One that is inclusive of considerations and addresses livelihoods of people who use drugs and people released from prisons
