Strengthening intelligence and investigation capacities of law enforcement officials in Eastern Africa to prevent terrorist acts
With funding from the Government of Germany, UNODC has been providing assistance the governments of Eastern Africa to strengthen the investigation and intelligence capacities of law enforcement agencies to effectively counter terrorism with respect for the rule of law and human rights.
This support has focused on strengthening the detection and prevention of terrorism activities through intelligence-led policing, by improving basic and specialized capacity to investigate acts of terrorism through collection and analysis of intelligence, reactive and proactive investigations and the role of crime intelligence; surveillance
and turning intelligence into evidence, investigation of terrorism cases including witness and suspect interviews,
digital evidence analysis and exploitation; and strengthened national coordination.
The project also focused on strengthening regional cooperation on enhanced joint investigations and intelligence sharing protocols and techniques.
