India: UNODC presents trends in terror financing at crime at ‘No Money for Terror’ Ministerial Conference chaired and hosted by Government of India
New Delhi, India/18 November 2022: Hosted and chaired by the Government of India, the third ‘No Money for Terror’ Ministerial Conference on Counter-Terrorism Financing was held in New Delhi, attended by 450 senior government delegates from 70 nations and opened by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
UNODC Regional Representative for South Asia Mr. Marco Teixeira and Chief of Terrorism Branch, Mr. Masood Karimipour participated in the conference, aimed at advancing global cooperation. In the discussions, UNODC presented international good practices in counter terrorism and emerging trends in terror financing and crime.
Addressing the conference, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for 'zero tolerance' against terrorism, saying, “Uprooting terrorism needs a systemic response, with joint operations, intelligence coordination and extradition. Organised crime is a key source of terror funding. Action against organised crime is extremely important in the fight against terror.”
Mr. Karimipour highlighted emerging trends in terror financing and crime, and international good practices in counter terrorism. Building on the discussions, UNODC stands ready to work with the Government of India and Member States to address the global challenge of terrorism.
