Austria: Policy Dialogue on UNODC's Work in South Asia Continues at Vienna Headquarters
Vienna, Austria/06 June 2023: The UNODC Regional Representative for South Asia Mr. Marco Teixeira visited the Vienna Headquarters of UNODC to conduct policy-level consultations with key actors involved in the delivery of UNODC projects and programmes in the region.
During a consultative meeting with Mr. Teixeira, the UNODC Executive Director Ms. Ghada Fathy Waly provided guidance and advise on ongoing and planned efforts in the region.
He also moderated a side event during the 32nd session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) on “Promoting a South Asia regional network of PVE practitioners (SAN-PVE)” and briefed the Permanent Missions of the six South Asian countries to the UN in Vienna.
The briefings to the Permanent Missions followed the meeting of the Steering Committee of the UNODC Regional Programme for South Asia (RPSA) which took place the previous week and endorsed the development of the new RPSA.
The Permanent Missions welcomed the strong consultative approach, and principles of inclusiveness and ownership that UNODC is applying in the process of the development of the new RPSA. The attention paid to the national priorities of the countries of the region was also appreciated.
The Regional Programme will be launched by the end of 2023 with the six South Asian Governments.
