March 2025, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan
The Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism (EAG) is launching the third round of mutual evaluations to assess EAG member states' compliance with the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) standards. The Kyrgyz Republic will be the first country evaluated in this round.
On 18 March 2025, UNODC successfully conducted a workshop for 20 officers from the State Financial Intelligence Services (SFIS) under the Ministry of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic. This workshop aimed to prepare the national team for this crucial evaluation process.
This activity, funded by the Russian Federation, is an integral part of the UNODC Project "Strengthening the Capacity of the Kyrgyz Republic in Supervisory Activities to Counter the Financing of Terrorist Activities and Laundering of Criminal Proceeds (AML/CFT)."
The workshop was facilitated by UNODC experts who shared invaluable knowledge, best practices, and international experience, covering a wide range of topics:
Since the last round of evaluations, the Kyrgyz Republic has made significant progress in addressing technical compliance deficiencies, improving its ratings on nearly all FATF recommendations to the levels of “partially compliant (PC)” or “largely compliant (LC)”. The real challenge now is to assess the effectiveness of these changes and how they have strengthened the country’s AML/CFT/CPF framework. Mr. Andrey Seleznev, Head of the UNODC Programme Office in Kyrgyzstan, emphasized the importance of the ongoing efforts to prepare for the third round of mutual evaluations: "A favorable evaluation outcome can enhance the Kyrgyz Republic's international reputation, attract foreign investment, and strengthen its financial system by demonstrating robust compliance with FATF standards."
The UNODC reaffirms its commitment to supporting the Kyrgyz Republic in enhancing AML/CFT efforts and adopting a risk-based approach to supervisory activities in alignment with international standards.
