Ministry of Health calls for proposals from non-governmental organizations working in networks in the areas of AIDS and hepatitis
BRL 10 million will be allocated for initiatives that work primarily with drug users, gays and sex workers
27 June 2012 - Health care assistance for sex workers, drug users, gays and other populations vulnerable to the AIDS and viral hepatitis will be supported this year with reinforcement of BRL 10 million from the Ministry of Health. These resources will be directed to the institutions that are engaged in preventive actions and promotion of the diagnosis of these diseases. One of the requirements for participation is to act within a network - there shall be an applicant organization and five regional partners, one from each region of Brazil. The selection for funding of projects proposed by the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) will be conducted through the Call for Proposals launched yesterday (26) by the Department of STD, AIDS and Viral Hepatitis of the Secretary of Health Surveillance.
The Call for Proposals is available here and the proposals may be submitted until August 10 th. The initiative, developed in a partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), seeks to improve the response to HIV / AIDS epidemic and strengthen the partnership with the social movements, which have been asking for more support from the federal government to regional projects in this area. "The proposals will contemplate the priority public in fighting the epidemic. The Call for Proposal is an outcome of the commitment made by the Ministry of Health to maintain and expand partnerships with organized civil society" said Dirceu Greco, director of the Department of STD, AIDS and Viral Hepatitis.
Eligible participants are nonprofit CSOs, organized in partnerships, which directly benefit the most vulnerable populations to STD / HIV / AIDS and viral hepatitis. Participants need to prove that, over the past three years, they developed activities focused on the prevention and the promotion of the diagnosis among the specific audience beneficiary of the project.
The call for proposals will finance projects of the regional scope that include at least three states in the Northern region, five in the Northeast region, two in the South region, three in the Southeast region and two in the Midwest region of Brazil. The Call for Proposals is an outcome of the technical cooperation between the Department of STD, AIDS and Viral Hepatitis of the Secretariat of Health Surveillance (SVS) of the Ministry of Health, the World Bank (BIRD) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The maximum value, per proposal, is R$ 360,000.
