Serbian Law Enforcement and Prosecutorial institutions improve their investigative capacity on corruption through UNODC GlobE initiative
22 November, Belgrade, Serbia: UNODC introduced the Regional Component of the GlobE Network for the Western Balkans to a wide group of representatives from specialized anti-corruption law enforcement authorities and Public Prosecutor’s department of Serbia.
Following the introduction of the GlobE Network, a dynamic discussion, marked by active participation from law enforcement and prosecutorial representatives, explored the potential of GlobE and its secure communication platform for promoting cross-border cooperation in investigating corruption cases and related asset recovery case.
The GlobE Network Regional Component for the Western Balkans was officially launched on 5 September 2023 in Vienna. The network connects anti-corruption bodies, prosecutors, law enforcement and financial intelligence units from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia.
The network aims to facilitate informal law enforcement cooperation in investigating corruption, asset recovery, and capacity building through the exchange of experiences and good practices. The members of the network have access to the directory of GLOBE contact points, may use a secure communication platform, and benefit from knowledge resources and regular training.
The introduction of the GlobE Network to South-Eastern Europe jurisdictions further improves the effectiveness and efficiency of the Roadmap Initiative on Corruption and Illicit Finance launched in 2021 by the Western Balkan jurisdictions to better fight against corruption.
