During the Special Event, the new project STRIVE Juvenile has been presented. STRIVE Juvenile: Preventing and Responding to Violence against Children by Terrorist and Violent Extremist Groups is a three-year (2021-2024), EUR 5.5 million initiative by the European Union and UNODC. The project aims to partner with the selected countries, the Republic of Indonesia, the Republic of Iraq and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for the development and implementation of comprehensive national responses to prevent and counter violent extremism affecting children, in full respect of human rights, gender equality and international law. UNODC Roadmap on the Treatment of Children Associated with Terrorist and Violent Extremist Groups highlighted at the COTER Meeting, European Council
UNODC participated in the meeting organised by the Working Party on Terrorism (COTER) of the European Council and presented the UNODC Roadmap on the Treatment of Children Recruited and Exploited by Terrorist and Violent Extremist Groups. The UN Counter-Terrorism Centre (UNCCT) and UNODC held a joint High-Level event on "Protecting Children Affected by Terrorism"
Organised on the margins of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly, the purpose of this event was to launch the UNCCT handbook on "Children Affected by the Foreign-Fighter Phenomenon: Ensuring a Child Rights-Based Approach," and to present the UNODC Comprehensive Training Package on Children Recruited and Exploited by Terrorist and Violent Extremist Groups. The Roadmap is the result of 3 years of technical assistance work by UNODC to Member States that are affected by this phenomenon.
