UNODC publishes Guidelines on Prevention of Corruption during the Covid-19 Pandemic
Yangon (Myanmar), 24 June 2020 - With the whole society focused on pandemic relief efforts, there are now ample opportunities for corruption, bribery, and fraud in the public and private sectors.
In order to address the corruption risks related to Covid-19 pandemic, the UNODC Country Office in Myanmar developed Guidelines on Prevention of Corruption during the Covid-19 Pandemic, outlining means to prevent corruption linked to the pandemic.

A simplified procurement system, bribery in provision of medical services, unfair/imbalanced distribution of relief measures and aid, fraud related to falsified medicines, protective equipment (e.g. masks, gloves), and low quality of medical equipment due to the lack of monitoring and oversight of simplified procurement processes are just some examples that provide opportunities for corruption.
The Guidelines are being addressed to the Anti-Corruption Commission of Myanmar, Corruption Prevention Units in various ministries, public institutions and civil servants, as well as media and the general public. The document serves as resource to identify and address corruption in the public and private sectors during the pandemic, and raises awareness among the public. It is a living document that will continue to be updated.
The Guidelines have been shared with the Corruption Prevention Units prior the 4-day workshop on Corruption Risk Assessment, organized by the Anti-Corruption Commission of Myanmar from 9 to 12 June 2020.
