Internship in Communication

1. Objectives of the programme

This internship programme aims at providing an opportunity for students to gain practical working experience in supporting communication and public engagement functions underpinning the UNODC Indonesia Office. The communication intern will assist the UNODC Indonesia office in developing and implementing communication strategies and products to raise awareness and visibility of UNODC's work on drugs and crime in Indonesia.

Main Activities of the Communication Interns

Upon agreement with the respective supervisor, the communication internship programme may comprise the following activities:

  • Draft and edit press releases, web stories, social media posts, and other communication materials to raise awareness and visibility of UNODC’s work and impact in Indonesia 
  • Support the design and production of publications, infographics, videos, and other multimedia products to showcase UNODC’s achievements, best practices, and lessons learned
  • Update and maintain UNODC Indonesia website and social media platforms with relevant and engaging content, such as news, events, photos, videos, etc
  • Conduct media monitoring and analysis
Assist in the organization of public events, campaigns, and outreach activities

2. Eligibility and Qualifications

To be eligible for the communication internship programme, the applicant must meet the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate programme or in the final year of an undergraduate programme in law, criminology, international relations, communication or other relevant fields; or have graduated within one year at the commencement of the internship
  • Have graduated with a university degree
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills in English (for both internship programmes) and Bahasa Indonesia (for communication internship)
  • Have a keen interest and knowledge of UNODC's mandate and work on drugs and crime
  • Be available for a minimum duration of two months and a maximum of six months
  • Experience and skills in graphic design, video editing, web development, or other relevant software will be advantageous

3. Application Process

To apply for the communication internship, the applicant must submit the following documents to the UNODC Indonesia office by email:

  • A curriculum vitae
  • A short essay (about 150-250 words) outlining the applicant's motivation and expectations for the internship
  • A letter of confirmation from the university indicating the applicant's enrolment status or a graduation certificate indicating the degree completion date
  • A sample of the applicant's communication-related work (e.g. a press release, a newsletter, a web story, a social media post, a graphic design, etc.)

While we accept applications on a rolling basis, we will conduct our next review in mid March 2024 and only applications received by 8 March 2024 will be considered.

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview. The UNODC Indonesia office does not provide any financial or logistical support for the internship. The intern is responsible for obtaining the necessary visa, travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses.
