UNODC Supports Anti-Corruption Summer School for Universities in Kazakhstan

The Anti-Corruption Summer School “Culture of Integrity in Higher Education” concluded on 14June 2024 in the picturesque Bayanaul, Pavlodar province, Kazakhstan. The event was organized by the UNODC and the Anti-Corruption Agency of Kazakhstan with financial support from the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) Bureau of the U.S. Embassy in Astana.

The Summer School brought together 50 participants including faculty staff, compliance officers and local experts from across the country, who discussed different measures on implementing anti-corruption strategies. Over the course of five days, participants engaged in comprehensive sessions designed to promote integrity, transparency, and ethical behavior within educational institutions.

Miras Kargabay, representative of the Prevention Department at the Anticorruption Agency of Kazakhstan spoke about practical aspects of implementation of national anticorruption policy and legislation. Representatives from UNODC Programme Office in Kazakhstan provided insights on international anti-corruption education initiatives and related communications tools for an effective advocacy. Particular attention was also paid to project management and enforcement of ISO 37001 standards.

As noted by the participants: “Interactive sessions and workshops on emotional intelligence, design thinking, project management, and compliance strategies fostered a collaborative learning environment. Knowledge and skills gained from the practical exercises will help to develop innovative approaches in combating corruption in our institutions.”
