On 03-05 December 2024, the National Awareness-raising Workshop on strategic trade, export control and criminal intelligence was held in Turkmenbashi, Turkmenistan.
The event, attended by 13 members of Port Control Units of Turkmenistan was led by UNODC experts.
The main goal of the workshop was to enhance the PCU’s knowledge on STEC items control principles and implementation, fraud patterns and risk indicators, developing and using risk profiles, commodity identification techniques, and using web-platforms in this area.
During the discussions, the participants improved knowledge in strategic trade, multilateral export control regimes aimed at non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD), chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear weapons, dual use goods involved in production and use of such weapons and their delivery systems.
This workshop extended enforcement approaches of Turkmen PCU members to prevent the illicit trafficking and smuggling of strategic commodities and related items through effective border, export, transit, and transshipment controls.
The Programme is supported by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of International Narcotics & Law Enforcement (INL), the US Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS) Program, and the Governments of Germany, Japan, and France.
