In partnership with UNODC Brazil, State of Pernambuco seed 25 youth ambassadors graduate from the Youth Ambassadors Programme
Brasilia, 1 October 2023 - The 6th edition of the Youth Ambassadors Programme was successfully concluded over 4 days. The partnership between the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Brazil and the Secretariat for Social Development, Children, Youth, Violence and Drug Prevention (SDSCJPVD), brought 25 new young ambassadors to the State of Pernambuco, all trained to act as interlocutors for violence prevention policies and strategies in Brazil and around the world.
Organized from 14-17 September, the training of the group of young people from Pernambuco included dynamics related to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and encouragement of leadership skills. This was facilitated by a technical team of professionals trained to empower independent, conscious, and proactive young individuals.
The 6th edition of the Programme followed five learning modules connected to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including introduction to the SDGs, Peace, People, Planet and Prosperity. Throughout the course, the 25 participants presented thematic works in the areas of school dropouts, professional qualification, environmental conservation, and psychosocial support centers, among others.
Ethnic and gender diversity was a central topic in the 6th edition of the Program. The newly certified group was made up of 25 young people, aged between 18 and 25, of whom 12 were mixed-race, nine black, three white and from Quilombola ethnic groups. The majority (23) came from public schools, and in all, the group comes from nine of Pernambuco’s 12 Development Regions.
The Youth Ambassadors Programme is the result of a partnership between UNODC Brazil, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the Igarapé Institute.
