The new logo aims to represent the future that the Pernambuco Cooperation seeks to build: people circulating safely, sharing quality public spaces, accessing rights and experiencing the good life.

The project "Pernambuco Cooperation: Prevention, Citizenship, Safety" has a new logo to translate into images its main goal: to reduce violence in the state of Pernambuco. The initiative is a technical cooperation between the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Igarapé Institute and Pernambuco's Secretariat for Drug and Violence Prevention Policies.

In operation since February 2020, the joint action now enters a new phase that will have studies to guide public policies for violence prevention in the state.

The logo developed by the partners intends, above all, to represent the future that the Pernambuco Cooperation seeks to build: people circulating safely, sharing quality public spaces, accessing rights, and experiencing the good life.

The colors chosen dialogue with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) prioritized in the project. In red is SDG 5, for the promotion of gender equality; in pink, SDG 10, for the reduction of inequalities; in orange, SDG 11, which promotes sustainable cities and communities; and in blue, SDG 16, which supports peace, justice, and effective institutions.

The logo also brings Pernambuco's cultural, social, and territorial landmarks, which will be empowered in a safer and more inclusive city.

Pernambuco is among the 10 most violent states in the country, with a rate of 44.1 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants, according to the Atlas of Violence 2018. These crimes are directly related to the urban configuration of the territory. Of Pernambuco's 185 municipalities, only eight concentrate almost half of the intentional lethal violent crimes. These cities, most concentrated in the Metropolitan Region of Recife, will be the focus of the Pernambuco Cooperation.

To achieve its goals, the initiative seeks to develop knowledge and share innovative and integrated methodologies that can strengthen actions of social prevention of crime and violence and care for people who make harmful use of alcohol and other drugs in the state of Pernambuco. Each of the institutions involved will bring their expertise in this process, as shown in the diagram.

The initiative is a technical cooperation between the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Igarapé Institute, and the Secretariat for Drug and Violence Prevention Policies of Pernambuco.

The road to more inclusive, safe, resilient, sustainable, humane and healthy cities necessarily requires inclusive and participatory methodologies, allied to strategies orchestrated between public authorities, civil society and the entire population. Working in a multidisciplinary and inter-agency way, no one and no place is left behind.
