UNODC organises online Regional Workshop on corruption in LA
Brasilia, 10 December 2020 – UNODC Office in Brazil participated in the "Regional Workshop on Corporate Responsibility and the Adequacy of Corporate Compliance Systems", held from 26 to 27 November in Lima, Peru.
The online event is part of the activities of the South American and Mexican Regional Platform to accelerate the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), supported by the UK government, and included 95 participants from public ministries, anti-corruption agencies, anti-money laundering bodies, judicial and control bodies.
Focusing on the thematic area II of the Platform, the purpose of the workshop was to establish the basis for the development of a comparative study on the corporate responsibility systems adopted by the countries of the Regional Platform and the compliance systems established, including challenges, experiences and good practices in each country.
The anti-corruption coordinators of UNODC Brazil and Colombia, Eduardo Pazinato and Fabián Espejo, moderated the session "Evaluation of corporate compliance programmes", which was dedicated to the analysis of investigative techniques, approaches to negotiating agreements and criteria for assessing the effectiveness of corporate compliance programmes, establishing the application of mitigation measures on corruption sanctions.
The session was attended by the Coordinator for Private Integrity of the Comptroller General of the Union, Thiago Smarzaro, the Regional Public Prosecutor, José Pimenta Oliveira, and authorities from Chile and Peru.
