Brasilia, 15 December 2020 - The Management and Operational Center of the Amazonian Protection System (CENSIPAM) met with representatives from UNODC Brazil. The objective is to develop, in partnership, ways to combat illicit activities such as drug crops and trafficking, illegal mining and deforestation on the Amazonian border.
During the meeting, the UNODC Regional Programme Officer Alexander Walsh presented the Assistance Programme to Reduce Tropical Forest Deforestation (LEAP), a partnership among UNODC, INTERPOL and the Norwegian Centre for Global Analysis (RHIPTO).
The UNODC country director in Brazil, Elena Abbati, stressed the importance of working together to combat illegal deforestation and related crimes, considering the work of the Integration Group for the Protection of the Amazon (GIPAM). "CENSIPAM is known internationally. It is very interesting the support you could give to LEAP using your experience in the coordination role of different institutions," she said.
