UNODC and Caixa Seguradora Institute select participants for the Youth Ambassadors Programme in Salvador
Brasilia, October 9, 2017 - Following a highly competitive selection process, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in partnership with the Caixa Seguradora Institute, selected youths who will attend the third edition of the Youth Ambassadors Programme, which will take place between 11 and 15 October, in the city of Salvador, BA, Brazil. The Programme will bring together young people between the ages of 18 and 24 from various states in the northeast region of Brazil, such as Bahia, Ceara, Pernambuco and Paraiba, and offers a platform for learning, dialogue and exchange of experiences on the role of youth in implementation and monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
The Youth Ambassadors Training Programme is an initiative created in 2016 to train Brazilian youth and adolescents with leadership and social impact. In the first edition, 25 young people from Brasília were tutored, selected among more than 1,000 thousand registered. As a result, many of them were invited to attend national and international forums and seminars, such as the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum in New York and the Seminar on Youth Policies and Inequality in Latin America in Mexico City. In August of this year, Taya Queiroz, a participant in the first edition of the Programme, was selected to participate in the official United Nations event on International Youth Day in New York.
For Daniel Saraiva, 24 years old and participant of the last edition, the experience of engaging in the project was a milestone in his education in the personal, professional and social spheres. "Now I understand better the social problems and how to act to guarantee the sustainable development and quality of life for the population", he said.
For the 2017 edition, the Programme will be centred on the Agenda 2030, which will guide the five activity modules. Salvador is the first Brazilian city, besides the Federal District, to receive the Programme, which will take place from 11 to 15 October, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at Monte Pascoal Praia Hotel, Barra.
