UNODC opens applications for the Youth Ambassadors programme

Brasilia, 1 June 2017 - The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC) and Caixa Seguradora Institute will open this Friday (2) registrations for the 2017 edition of the Youth Ambassadors Programme, which will take place from July this year. Young people between 18 and 25 years old with intermediate knowledge of English, who are attending or have completed Higher Education and above all who have a leadership spirit and a transformative role in their communities can enrol.

The Youth Ambassadors Training Programme is an initiative created in 2016 aimed at empowering young people and adolescents with high leadership and social impact on international issues, strengthening the advocacy power of their participants to defend their agendas on national and international organizations. In the last edition, 25 young people from Brasilia were selected from more than 1,000 applications and participated in lectures, debates and practical activities on topics such as the UN System agenda, International Law, Entrepreneurship, Human Rights, Health and Sexuality and Sustainable Development Objectives (ODS), among others, for approximately 3 months. Consequently, a few young people were invited to national and international forums and seminars, such as the ECOSOC Youth Forum in New York and the Seminar on Youth Policies and Inequality in Latin America in Mexico City.

According to Anna Beatriz Dimas, 22, the experience of participating in the project had direct impacts on her personal and professional life. "The program opened my eyes to accessibility, entrepreneurship and inclusion, and today I work at a junior company, where we have a project to implement linguistic accessibility in the work environment. In addition, thanks to the training, I had the opportunity to be chosen to represent Brazil and the Brazilian junior companies in the Ship* Festival, a Finnish start-ups festival ", says the Brazilian.

For the 2017 edition, the Programme will focus on the 2030 Agenda, which will guide the five activity modules. With a focus on capacity building on the Sustainable Development Goals, it aims to train social change leaders and, above all, ODS multipliers.

The registration period for the Youth Ambassadors extends until 15 June.
