Note of clarification about the Global Study on Homicide 2013
Brasilia, 2 May 2014 - After the launch of the Global Study on Homicide 2013, on 10 April, some media channels assigned to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) a list 11 Brazilian cities among the 30 most violent in the world. Through this note, UNODC reiterates that this ranking is not part of the study's content; therefore, it cannot be assigned to the United Nations. The Global Study on Homicide offers a comprehensive overview of homicides across the globe. As this type of crime is one of the most accurate and comparable indicators for measuring violence, the aim of the study is to improve understanding of the phenomenon globally.
