Youth of Expression Program promotes dance and theater workshops in Brazilian communities
To mark the beginning of enrollment for workshops, an event will take place on 15 June in Alto Belo Vista, featuring cultural activities and orientation about STD/AIDS prevention
Brasilia, 14 June 2013 - An event with health and cultural activities at the Association of Residents of Alto Bela Vista on Saturday, 15 June, will mark the opening of enrollment for dance and theater workshops for young people in the community of Fercal, part of Brazil's Federal District. The initiative in a region where young people have little recreation and culture options is a partnership between the Association and the Youth of Expression Program.
The free dance and theater workshops of the Youth of Expression Program started two months ago in another community of Fercal, Engenho Velho, in partnership with the Communitarian Center of Engenho Velho. The dance classes take place on Saturdays, from 9 am to 12 pm and the theater classes happen on Sundays, from 2 pm to 5 pm.
The young students will show what they have learned on next Saturday's event, in Alto Bela Vista, which will have attractions such as rap and break shows, theater sketches, graffiti and a short film exhibition, followed by a debate with the public.
Besides the cultural activities, a "prevention stand" will offer orientation about prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and AIDS and distribute condoms, with the participation of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) consultants, one of the partners of the Youth of Expression Program. The free event will happen from 3 pm to 9 pm at the Association of Residents of Alto Bela Vista, DF 150 highway, km 13, just beside Trem Bom restaurant and concert house.
The workshops in Fercal and the cultural activities of the event are coordinated by Doriel Francisco da Silva and Carlos Alexandre Ferreira - two young agents of the Youth of Expression Program who live in the region and were selected to be communitarian mobilizers and local representatives of the program in Fercal.
More workshops - Besides the vacancies for theater and dance workshops in Alto Bela Vista and Engenho Velho communities, in Fercal, the Youth of Expression Program also offer workshops in Ceilândia (photography, event production, audiovisual and dance), for young people between 18 and 29 years old. The free workshops will start this month at the program's unit in Ceilândia's Citizen Square, QNM 18/20, Northern Ceilândia.
