UN Women Brazil and Southern Cone starts national consultations on the overall planning of the new entity
23 February, 2011 - The UN Women Brazil and Southern Cone starts this Wednesday (23 / 2) the consultation period for national survey of suggestions from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay for the first overall planning of the UN Women. The consultations are part of the national strategy of UN Women to maintain a constant dialogue with society, making more efficient their work in line with the reality of the countries where it operates.
In the Southern Cone, the process is being conducted by UN representative Women Brazil and Southern Cone, Rebecca Tavares, and is open to the participation of women, men, civil society organizations, governments, businesses and international cooperation agencies. The debate is centered on five global priorities of the UN Women: elimination of violence against women, leadership and political participation, economic empowerment, peace and security, and planning and national budgets.
"The UN Women is an achievement of women and gender equality poses in the foreground of discussions. In addition to celebrate this historic moment, we listen to society and different sectors to bring the discussion on the first strategic plan of the new United Nations agency, "explained the representative of the UN Women Brazil and Southern Cone.
Consultation countries
The consultation period in the Southern Cone opens today (23/2) in Brasília, during the general meeting of representatives of the United Nations system in Brazil. On Thursday (24/2) will be held in Brasilia a meeting with civil society organizations and government representatives. On the 28/2 and 1/3 will be the turn of Uruguay, with meetings concentrated in Montevideo, on 2 and 3/3 the debate will take place in Argentina, with audiences in Buenos Aires, and on 4 / 3 in Paraguay, with dialogues in Asuncion.
The round of national consultation closes on 5 and 7/3 in Santiago, Chile.
