UNODC participated in the 14th Addiction Science Congress and the 1st ISAM Asian Regional Meeting 2020

  

6 December 2020- The 14th Addiction Sciences Congress conjoined with the 1st Asian Branch of the International Society of Addiction Medicine (ISAM) was held 3-6 December 2020 virtually in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic with the participation of professionals, experts, scholars, physicians working in the filed of addiction.   

The Board of the 14th International Addiction Sciences Congress (ASC) had accepted the proposal and signed an MoU between the International Society of Addiction Medicine (ISAM) and ISAM Iranian Affiliated Society (ISTA) on holding the ISAM Asian Regional Meeting 2020 in parallel with the International Addiction Sciences Congress (ASC) 2020.

“COVID-19 puts health systems under additional strain, UNODC strives for supporting continuity and sustainability of services during the COVID crisis.  UNODC, in collaboration with national and international partners and civil society is working towards further promoting health and care as related to drug use and HIV together with containing the issue of COVID-19 as related to target populations.” Stated Alexander Fedulov, UNODC Country Representative in the I.R of Iran in his opening speech of the congress.  

Following the opening session, the first key note speaker of the congress was Mr. Andrés Finguerut UNODC Chief of the Drug Prevention and Health Branch.  Mr. Finguerut discussed Current Global Prospective on Treatment and Care of Drug Use Disorders. UNODC top specialists from the Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation and Research Sections of UNODC reported on scientific findings in the area of drug use, prevention and treatment in a panel specially dedicated to UNODC on Parenting tools and evolving stress of families during COVID19; Global opioid crisis; UNODC Treatnet Family; UNODC – WHO International Standards for the Treatment of Drug Use Disorders. Further UNODC Staff from the country Offices in Iran and Afghanistan had contributions in the congress proceedings.
