UNODC Iran Country Representative and Head of Islamic Republic of Iran Anti-Narcotics Police (ANP) Meet
17 June 2020, Tehran - UNODC Iran Country Representative, Alexander Fedulov, and Head of Iran's Anti-Narcotics Police (ANP), Colonel Majid Karimi, met and discussed areas of joint interest for cooperation under UNODC Iran Country Partnership Programme.
Mr. Fedulov congratulated ANP for the recent considerable seizures of various types of drugs. He also paid his contribution to Iranian officers who lost their lives in the fight against drug trafficking.
Mr. Fedulov touched base on the current situation of pandemic which has made the cooperation more challenging and stated that UNODC will continue to provide technical assistance and transfer of expertise to the Iranian counterparts. In this context, the UNODC e-learning packages as one of the possible technical cooperation and learning possibilities were introduced.
Colonel Majid Karimi welcomed proactive cooperation of UNODC and highlighted the role of Iran in combating drug trafficking. He further elaborated that Iranian Police is combating drug trafficking for humanitarian matters and without considering any political preferences.
Head of ANP referred to the issues of drug control funding and support from the international donors, adding that international community is expected to cooperation more closely with UNODC and Iran based on the principles of shared responsibility. He requested UNODC to provide further technical assistance and help in provision of equipment for drug control campaign.
It was jointly noted that extension and support to regional and international anti-narcotic cooperation is an essential part of partnership and UNIODC will continue its assistance.
