UNODC delivers sports goods for the drug prevention program
In a collaborative effort with the Drug Control Headquarters (DCHQ) and the Ministry of Sports and Youth, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) delivered sports goods to the Ministry of Sports and Youth and DCHQ. These sports goods will be utilized for the implementation of the sports-based programmes of UNODC aiming to prevent drug abuse among vulnerable youth.
Drawing on the expertise of international specialists, UNODC has developed comprehensive programmes that combines sports and life skills training to effectively address the multifaceted challenges faced by young people. By harnessing the power of sports, these programmes offer a unique and engaging approach to foster personal development and resilience. The potential of sport is recognized to serve as a catalyst for positive change, leveraging its ability to captivate and inspire youth. By equipping youth with the necessary skills and knowledge, the evidence-based and sports-centred programmes aim to empower them to make informed decisions and actively choose a path that leads to personal growth and a crime-free, drug-free lifestyle.
UNODC procured goods, which include volleyballs, basketballs, handballs. Other sport items will be utilized in the context of the said programmes. The items handed over by UNODC Country Office Representative, Mr. Alexander Fedulov, will be distributed amongst the sports centres in provinces of Fars, Kerman, Sistan and Baluchestan, Qazvin, Khuzestan and East-Azerbaijan.
