UNODC Coordinated the Official Hand-Over Ceremony of K9 Trailers and Equipment

Tehran, 04 December 2019 - The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in the Islamic Republic of Iran handed-over two specially manufactured trailers and K9 equipment to the Police K9 centre. This official ceremony was held with the presence of the Government of Japan as the donor for this activity.
These trailers and the K9 equipment which were procured under Sub-programme 1 of UNODC Country Partnership Programme aim to further increase the operational capacity and mobility of the K9 teams of the Iranian Police. In his remarks during the ceremony, Mr. Alexander Fedulov, UNODC Country Representative in Iran , noted the achievements of Police K9 centre and anticipated that UNODC support would result in better success and achievements. He also acknowledged the generous support from the Government of Japan.

The police K9 centre is responsible for 10-12 percent of the annual seizure of the whole country, and use of drug detecting dogs is considered a convenient method for identification of hidden concealments of illicit drugs.
During the ceremony, Mr. Toru, Chargé d'affaires of the Embassy of Japan, reconfirmed the support of his Government through UNODC to the Islamic Republic of Iran on issues related to drug control activities.

The event was organized as part of the activities foreseen in the framework of the sub-programme 1 "Border Management and Illicit Trafficking" of UNODC Country Partnership Programme (2015-2019) for the Islamic Republic of Iran through the generous donation of the Government of Japan.
