UNODC and Iran enhancing cooperation in the crime-related matters
7 November 2023, Tehran – The Deputy General Commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Law Enforcement and the Chief of Law Enforcement International Affairs, met with the of the UNODC Iran Country Representative and discussed crime-related matters. The meeting was held within the framework of the UNODC Country Partnership Programme in the Islamic Republic of Iran 2023-2026. In the meeting, Brigadier General Majid Karimi acknowledged efforts made by UNODC Iran Country Office in providing technical assistance to the national counterparts active in crime-related matters, and in improving regional and international cooperation in criminal matters with the international community. He expressed the readiness of technical departments of Police to expand their collaborations with the UNODC and the international partners in the areas of combating various forms of crimes including, inter alia, transnational organized crime, money laundering, terrorism and its financing, trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants, economic and financial crimes.
Mr. Alexander Fedulov provided information on the negotiations between the government of Islamic Republic of Iran and the UNODC, based on which, the parties agreed to move forward their collaborations within the framework of UNODC Country Partnership Programme 2023-2026. He acknowledged the efforts and work of the Iranian law enforcement in fight against different types of crime and expressed his office interest to expand collaborations in the areas of mutual interests. They agreed to continue their technical cooperation within the framework of the current Country Partnership Programme, as the crime component of the document strategizes the technical cooperation with the government counterparts on matters related to combating various forms of crime and promotes regional and international cooperation in criminal matters.
