United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Iran and the Islamic Republic of Iran Judiciary opened new round of talks in the areas of crime prevention and criminal justice
Tehran, 16 November 2021 – The Deputy Head of Judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the International Affairs and the Secretary of the High Council for Human Rights, and UNODC Iran Country Representative met and opened the new round of talks in the areas of crime prevention and criminal justice.
Mr. Kazem Gharibabadi supported the work done by the UNODC Iran in the areas of crime prevention and criminal justice and acknowledged the achievements of earlier collaborations. He stated that the continuation of partnership should be further comprehensive, constructive and effective. He outlined the areas of crime prevention and criminal justice, alternatives to imprisonment, prison management systems, mutual legal assistance, extradition, corruption and terrorism as the main priorities of work with the UNODC Iran. He expressed the willingness of the Judiciary to run target-oriented projects with the UNODC Office in Iran.
Mr. Alexander Fedulov supported the new initiative of “Judicial Diplomacy”, which has recently been introduced by the Head of the Judiciary, and expressed UNODC Iran’s readiness to move forward on technical cooperation in above mentioned areas of mutual interest. The UNODC Iran Country Representative highlighted the importance and the effectiveness of continuing joint collaborations actively, aiming to promote further application of crime prevention policies and to modernize criminal justice measures. He outlined the regional affairs and international cooperation as the fundamental areas of work of the UNODC Iran.
Reviewing the developments of the UNODC Country Partnership Programme in the Islamic Republic of Iran 2015-2021 and in line with the global strategy of UNODC, the parties agreed to continue their partnership within the framework of a new long-term document of collaboration, UNODC Country Partnership Programme in the Islamic Republic of Iran 2022 to 2025.
