LONDON, United Kingdom – February 2015: Several NPS have recently been placed under permanent control in the United Kingdom. According to the Home Office, the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 has been recently amended to classify the following substances as Class A drugs:
Statutory Instrument 2014 No. 3271, in force since 7 January 2015:
-) the synthetic opioid receptor agonist AH-7921
-) the LSD-related compounds commonly known as ALD-52, AL-LAD, ETH-LAD, PRO-LAD and LSZ
-) the compounds captured by the extended definition of tryptamines, which now include compounds commonly known as AMT and 5-MeO-DALT
Statutory Instrument 2015 No.215,will come into force on 11 March 2015:
-) 1-Cyclohexyl-4-(1,2-diphenylethyl)piperazine (MT-45)
-) 4-Methyl-5-(4-methylphenyl)-4,5-dihydrooxazol-2-amine (4,4’-DMAR)
The aforementioned substances are inserted into Schedule 2 of the Misuse of Drugs Act. According to the Home Office, these substances have no recognized medicinal or legitimate uses beyond potential research use. Under the Misuse of Drugs Act it is unlawful to possess, supply, produce, import or export these drugs except under a Home Office license for research or “other special purpose”.
