February 2017 – India: Mephedrone seizures of 104 kg reported in Mumbai and another 25 kg reported in New Delhi

Mumbai and New Delhi, INDIA – February 2017: In January and February 2017, the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Mumbai Police reported to have made a number of mephedrone seizures. A particularly large seizure of 104 kg of mephedrone together with 38 grams of cocaine was reported by the Mumbai Police on 29 January when 7 Nigerien nationals were arrested for allegedly selling the drugs at Wadi Bunder railway station in state of Maharashtra in India. On 15 February, police arrested 3 Indian nationals at the New Delhi railway station who were suspected of belonging to an international drug syndicate and were in the possession of more than 25 kg of mephedrone. Police reported that the drug had been smuggled to the city from Mumbai. The ANC also reported a number of mephedrone seizures consisting of smaller quantities ranging between 1 kg to 2.4 kg in the course of February 2017.
