Transparency International Indonesia and UNODC establish an anti-corruption forum

Jakarta (Indonesia), 25 January 2011
- On 21 December 2010, Transparency International Indonesia and UNODC established an anti-corruption forum in support of the National Development Planning Board's implementation of its new National Anti-Corruption Strategy. The forum was established as a coordination mechanism, with a mandate to facilitate cooperation on corruption prevention and to accelerate the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy.

61 participants joined the forum, representing academic institutions, the media, civil society organizations, private sectors organizations and government officers from throughout Indonesia.

Dr. Diani Sadiawati, Director of Legal and Human Rights of the National Development Planning Board, presented the National Strategy and the Action Plan for the Eradication of Corruption (2010-2015) at the forum. The forum was an opportunity for participants to discuss and debate key implementation priorities of the national strategy itself.

Participants wrapped up the forum with recommendations such as:

  • Greater public awareness of the National Strategy through public campaigning;
  • Clarity regarding best practice and punitive measures;
  • Enhanced support toward the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in its capacity to implement the National Strategy;
  • Stronger monitoring mechanisms at national and regional levels; and
  • Greater transparency and trust in information sharing within national anti-corruption efforts.

The anti-corruption forum was established under a project funded by the European Union.
