UNODC-WCO Global Container Control Programme promotes interregional practical cooperation and experience exchange between the Customs Services of Kazakhstan, Pakistan and Turkmenistan

On 14-17 March 2023, the UNODC Regional Office for Central Asia organized the exchange visit for seven Port Control Unit members of Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan to Karachi, Pakistan under the Inter-Regional Network of Customs Authorities and Port Control Units of the UNODC-WCO Global Container Control Programme (CCP).

While the main purpose of the exchange visit was to strengthen interregional practical cooperation through promoting and facilitating the information exchange between the Port Control Units (PCUs) on high-risk consignments, the event provided a great opportunity to learn the Pakistani Customs’ experience and the best practices in container and cargo control, namely at the Karachi Sea Port.

The delegations of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan were actively involved into the process of sharing the best practices, experience and expertise in customs control techniques, risk analysis, profiling and inspecting high-risk consignments, detecting illicit shipments.

The open and meaningful communication between the Central Asian and Pakistani Customs officials and officers was accompanied by a practical demonstration of the customs control organization in Karachi Sea Port in real-time.

The visit participants expressed their appreciation to the CCP for its strategic approach and the relevance of its interventions in the region, highly beneficial for the countries, as well as for the role of a reliable interlocutor for the countries in their efforts to build and enhance mutual relations and practical cooperation.
